Ian Godwin to perform selected readings

Charles Dickens’ novels are either revered as touching stories or remembered as necessary textbooks. Regardless of contradictory opinions, Dickens is still a largely celebrated author, read and loved by many.

To celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Dickens (1812-2012), the Collingwood Public Library is hosting a special performance of the most favoured Dickens’ novels. The event, Selected Readings from Charles Dickens, will be performed by Collingwood resident Ian Godwin.

Godwin is an experienced actor with a flair for the dramatic and a love of classic literature. He was introduced to classic literature at a young age by his father; the classics have captured his attention ever since.

“Since reading my first classic Gone with the Wind, I’ve always enjoyed reading novels by great authors. It’s a pleasure I’ve tried to pass down to my own children and grandchildren,” says Godwin.

At the event, Godwin will share a brief biography of Dickens, before reading his favourite passages from the following novels: Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, Pickwick Papers, Oliver Twist, and A Christmas Carol.

Join the Library for Selected Readings from Charles Dickens on Thursday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. The event is free to attend. For more details, please contact the Public Services Desk at 705-445-1571 or visit www.collingwoodpubliclibrary.ca
