Collingwood, ON. April 23, 2012 – The Collingwood Public Library is pleased to present Canadian Impressions by artist Mikulas Kravjansky this May. The show features a collection of Kravjansky’s Canadian landscape paintings from the last few years. The show runs at the Library from Wednesday, May 2 to Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
Kravjansky prepares many of his paintings “en plein air” which is the act of painting outdoors. He recreates these paintings into larger pieces back at his indoor studio. Kravjansky explores nature, history and current happenings. His paintings depict findings that have made a significant impact on him.
“I enjoyed creating these paintings, mainly because they bring back memories of my experiences from locations where I placed my portable easel and tried to capture the exact feeling of the surrounding nature,” said Kravjansky of his work. “The paintings tell quaint colourful stories of the mountains I was climbing on, the magical forest where I was hiking, or just unpacking my sketch book on a sun drenched meadow and painting my heart out.”
Kravjansky sees his role as an artist to identify the stories of life and present them in a pleasant, compelling way. He wants viewers to experience inspiration when they engage with his paintings.
“I paint what I feel. I do not really paint every detail, even though it may appear that way. Instead, I concentrate on the overall summary of shapes and silhouettes as they appear on the light.”
The Collingwood Public Library invites the public to attend this cultural event. The opening reception for invited guests is on Saturday, May 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the FreeSchools World Literacy Community Room.
